About Me

My “Aha” Moment Came in the Quiet and Changed My Perspective FOREVER

I’m sure if you’ve made it to this page you want to know a little more about me.

The biggest joy in my life is spending time with my beautiful daughters and my grandsons.  I am also very fulfilled by my work, which allows me to help improve people’s health and happiness every single day.

I owned a thriving Yoga studio for eight years, up until March 2020 when it closed due to COVID-19.  The very next day, I began teaching Yoga online.  This was the catalyst that changed my life and led me to start helping people recover from stress, ME/CFS, and depression.

My passion for specialising in stress and ME/CFS came from my own personal journey as well as the clients I was attracting to my clinic.  Most, if not all, of my clients were suffering from stress, fluctuating energy levels, and digestive problems. I started to dig a little deeper to see how I could help. My research led me to the understanding that both Western and Eastern Medicine had similar beliefs about this debilitating disease.

Both our Brains and Our Immunity are Affected by How Well Our Digestive System Operates. Because of a cocktail of chemicals triggered by the fight-or-flight response, long term stress creates muscle tension and increases breathing and heartbeat. This dysfunction causes inflammation in the body, which thickens the blood and increases pain. This can then damage the GI Tract, leading to food not being digested properly in the gut. As a result, material from partially digested foods can leak through the damaged intestinal wall into the bloodstream, and lead to autoimmune conditions.

The Science of Ayurveda Knew This Knowledge 5000 Years Ago. So how did we as a society get so far off track? I can only explain this from my own perspective and share with you my own path to healing and ancient teachings from the East. These teachings may bring you more clarity and have the power to show us how to live a healthier and happy life.

Knowledge Is Power. Self-help books line the shelves of my office.  The first book I ever read that I was truly interested in was You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay.  More recently, I’ve been reading books written by neuroscientists from both a Western and Eastern perspective about this debilitating disease, ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The irony of my own path to healing is, “the more I learn, the more I heal”.

The Catalyst for Change.  COVID-19 was the reason I was forced to close down my business, and it gave me much needed time to reassess my life.  During this time, I realised that since being a young adult I had never given myself any time to look deeper into my Purpose and Passion.

I was a competitive athlete in my youth, got married young and raised three amazing women, supported my husband in eight different businesses, owned and operated my own Yoga School from 2013 till March 2020, and at the same time studied a 3-year Advanced Diploma in Ayurvedic Medicine.  This was a very challenging period of my life.  I was juggling too many balls which led to many health issues and total burnout.

My Business and Marriage Ended, My Health Suffered, and I Was Forced to Ask Myself ‘What is it That I’m Searching For’? To be honest, I didn’t really know…  So I just got myself busy again and took up guitar and singing lessons, listened to heaps of audiobooks so I could do two things at once while I walked along the beach. I could see I was trying to fill my life up again.

This is when I had my “Aha” moment.

I had a deep-seated habit going on.  I was avoiding all the hard stuff that I had pushed so far deep down in my subconscious. And the way that I was living, it had no chance of ever coming up. I realised that I had to stop doing and allow myself the space to begin working through my stuff.

I Slowly Learnt That I Had to Change My Perspective On Many Things.  When I felt lonely, instead of dwelling on my loneliness I started to shift that thought to, ‘I’m enjoying the solitude’. I then realised that this was the first time in my life that nobody needed me for anything.  No kids [as they’re adults now], no husband, no staff, my parents are doing great caring for each other.  Wow!  I began to think how fortunate I was to have this time to heal.

My whole world began to change because I changed my perspective.

I started to become aware that when I stopped worrying and focused more on my dreams and purpose, I could find joy in every moment. This saying came true for me: ‘When you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life’.

In My Darkest Times I Found Something Special.  Life challenged me so much.  Although I do have a lot of friends and family, I felt like I was going through this alone.  I was creating a whole new life for myself during this time. A life I never knew before.  I was finding myself reaching out to something larger, praying that everything would work out OK.   In this new way of being, I started to find flow in my life and felt that I was exactly where I was supposed to be.   I was learning a crucial lesson for the next part of my journey.

I Became Aware That Life Was Actually On My Side! When I felt lonely, a friend would call and I’d have a much-needed chat. When I worried about money, I’d suddenly get more bookings. I began to witness the impermanence of my thoughts as it was probably the first time in my life that I allowed myself to get quiet enough to hear the whispers of my heart. During these quiet times, I experienced fleeting moments of complete joy, too.

I knew that I was experiencing True Healing. Is this what happens to people when they’ve been told they have one month to live and then suddenly the cancer dissolves in their bodies? I’m not completely sure, but I believe I found something that I’d never have found if I hadn’t given myself this time to be.

Unfortunately, I Had to Get to a Deep, Dark Place to Find Peace and Healing. This seems to be the case for most of us. We live on the edge until we’re forced to heal. For me, it was a combination of many things. Yoga therapy techniques brought me back to my body and out of my head, which was often filled with anxiety and worry. Ayurvedic principles improved my digestion. I started daily journaling, practicing new skills, educating myself, and connecting with that unexplainable essence that I will call God that I found in the quiet.
